اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى.
O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment (or richness).
Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina.
When to Read
This is a comprehensive dua that can be recited at any time, but it's particularly potent when facing business decisions that test your integrity. Recite it before important meetings, when contemplating a deal, or whenever you feel the pull of temptation towards unethical practices. Making it a part of your daily supplications, especially after your obligatory prayers, can build a strong foundation of reliance on Allah.
How to Read
Raise your hands in supplication as you would in Salah, face the Qiblah if possible, and recite with sincerity and full conviction in Allah's power to grant your request. Focus on the meaning of each word and visualize yourself embodying these qualities in your business dealings. Remember to also make sincere efforts (asbab) in your work and strive to avoid situations that lead to temptation.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking guidance (huda) from Allah ensures your business decisions align with what is right and pleasing to Him. Piety (tuqa) is the consciousness of Allah that keeps you mindful of His commands and prohibitions, acting as a barrier against wrongdoing. Chastity ('afafa) in this context extends to maintaining purity in your intentions, dealings, and wealth, avoiding any form of dishonesty or exploitation. Contentment (ghina) means being satisfied with what Allah has provided, reducing the greed that often fuels unethical behavior. This dua, by encompassing these vital elements, helps build a business that is not only prosperous but also morally upright, earning Allah's pleasure in this life and the next.
