Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 3434

O Allah, I ask You for righteousness and piety in this journey of mine, and for deeds that please You. O Allah, make the earth easy for us to traverse, grant us ease in our travels, and let us reach our destination through Your protection and care. O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I need no one else.

Allahumma inni as'aluka fi safari hadha al-birra wat-taqwa, wa minal 'amali ma tarda. Allahumma hawwi bina al-ard, warzuqna as-sahra, wa ballighna bi hifdhika wa hiyatah. Allahumma akfini bi halalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak.

When to Read

This dua is particularly beneficial to recite when embarking on a journey for business. It is best recited just before setting off, perhaps after the Fajr prayer or upon leaving one's home, as you begin your travel, whether by car, plane, train, or any other mode of transport.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a sincere intention for your business dealings to be conducted ethically and successfully, seeking Allah's blessing and protection throughout. It is recommended to raise your hands slightly while making dua, as was the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Ensure you are in a state of purity if possible. Reflect on each word and its meaning, internalizing the request for divine assistance.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua seeks Allah's favor for righteousness, piety, and accepted deeds during your business travel. It requests ease in traversing the earth and reaching your destination safely, emphasizing reliance on Allah's protection. Crucially, it asks for sufficiency through lawful means, protecting you from unlawful gains, and for wealth through Allah's grace, fostering contentment and independence from relying on anyone but Him. This covers both the physical safety of travel and the ethical and financial integrity of your business pursuits.

Source & Authentication

When the Prophet (ﷺ) would dispatch his companions on military expeditions, he would instruct them to fear Allah and to treat the Muslims and the disbelievers kindly. And when one of them would set out, he would teach him this supplication: 'O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Successor in the family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardship of the journey, from unwelcome sights, and from a bad place in wealth and family upon returning.' When this was narrated to Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), he mentioned a slightly different wording that emphasizes seeking righteousness and lawful provision, which is the version provided above.
