Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5095

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ.

In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah. And there is no might nor power except with Allah.

Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.

When to Read

This powerful dua is recommended to be recited when setting out on a journey, including business trips. It's best said just before you embark, as you are leaving your home or workplace, signifying your reliance on Allah as you begin your travel.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and full reliance on Allah. Utter the words clearly, focusing on their meaning: acknowledging Allah's name, entrusting your affairs to Him, and recognizing that all power and strength comes only from Him. This isn't just a verbal utterance; it's a declaration of your faith and submission.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua when departing for a journey has immense benefits. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When a person goes out of his house and says: 'Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallahi, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah,' it is said to him: 'You are guided, defended and your needs are met.' And Satan will move away from him.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 5095). This means Allah sends angels to guide and protect you, your needs will be met, and evil from Shaitan is kept at bay throughout your journey.
