Dua for Protection Against Poor Business Choices

Business & Work
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 984

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا.

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good and pure provision, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This dua is excellent to recite at any time, but particularly beneficial before embarking on a new business venture, making a significant financial decision, or when feeling uncertain about the path forward in your work. It's also a good practice to say it regularly, perhaps after Fajr or before starting your workday, to seek Allah's guidance in all your professional endeavors.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, raising your hands as you do so. Focus on the meaning of the words, asking Allah for knowledge that benefits, provision that is lawful and pure, and deeds that are accepted. It is recommended to be in a state of wudu (ritual purity) if possible, and to face the Qiblah (direction of prayer).

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive supplication asks for three vital elements for success in this life and the Hereafter, especially in the context of work and business. Beneficial knowledge allows us to make sound judgments, avoid pitfalls, and operate with wisdom. Pure provision ensures that our earnings are lawful and blessed, bringing barakah (blessings) to our lives and families. Accepted deeds mean that our efforts are acknowledged and rewarded by Allah, even in our worldly pursuits. Seeking these through dua strengthens our reliance on Allah and invites His divine assistance, protecting us from decisions that lead to loss, regret, or unlawful gain.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good and pure provision, and accepted deeds).
