Dua for Entering the Marketplace: Seeking Refuge and Blessing

Business & Work
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1342

There is no god but Allah, alone, without partner. To Him belongs sovereignty and to Him belongs all praise. He gives life and He causes death. He is Ever-Living, He will never die. In His hand is all goodness, and He is Able to do all things.

When to Read

This dua is recommended to be recited upon entering any marketplace or place of commerce. It's a beautiful way to imbue our worldly dealings with remembrance of Allah and seek His protection and favor from the outset.

How to Read

Recite this supplication sincerely, with the full awareness of its meaning and with conviction in Allah's power and mercy. Try to say it with a clear voice if you are alone, or quietly to yourself if you are surrounded by people. The focus should be on connecting your heart to Allah as you step into an environment where temptations and distractions can be numerous.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ informed us that whoever recites this dua upon entering the marketplace earns a hundred thousand rewards, has a hundred thousand of their sins forgiven, and has a hundred thousand degrees raised for them in Paradise. (Sahih al-Tirmidhi 3428, Sahih Ibn Majah 2235). It's a profound reminder that even our mundane activities can become acts of worship if we connect them to Allah. It also safeguards us from the potential negative influences of the market, such as greed, dishonesty, and heedlessness.
