Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "When the Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, finished his prayer, he would seek refuge in Allah three times and say: 'O Allah, protect me from punishment in the heat of the Day of Judgment.' Then he would turn to his Companions and say: 'None of you should ever let anyone ask me anything until he dies.' One day, a man asked the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: 'O Messenger of Allah, teach me a comprehensive supplication.' The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, took his hand and said: 'Say: O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.' When this man sat down, he started to supplicate with these words. When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saw him, he said: 'O Allah, forgive him, his sins, his beginnings and his endings, his secrets and his open deeds, and his intentions.'"
