Business & Work
Sahih HadithSunan Ibn Majah 760

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provision, and acceptable deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This dua is profoundly relevant before starting any business venture, making a significant business decision, or when feeling uncertain about the ethical implications of a transaction. It's a powerful supplication to seek Allah's wisdom to discern right from wrong in the complex world of commerce.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, preferably after the obligatory prayers or at any time you seek clarity. Focus on the meaning, asking Allah to grant you knowledge that benefits you and others, provision that is lawful and good, and deeds that are accepted by Him. Imagine Allah's wisdom guiding your business dealings away from any form of exploitation or dishonesty.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua directly addresses the core needs for ethical business: beneficial knowledge to understand principles and consequences, pure provision to ensure lawful earnings, and acceptable deeds to ensure all efforts are pleasing to Allah. By seeking these, a Muslim aims to conduct business in a manner that is both personally fulfilling and divinely approved, avoiding any exploitation that could incur Allah's displeasure.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to say when the morning came: 'O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is useful, for provision that is good and lawful, and for deeds that are accepted.' (Sunan Ibn Majah 760, Sahih Muslim 735). While the hadith doesn't explicitly mention 'exploitative practices,' the request for 'beneficial knowledge' and 'pure provision' encompasses the wisdom to navigate business ethically and the blessing to earn honestly, thereby steering clear of all forms of injustice and exploitation.
