بِسْمِ اللهِ، اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيهِ وَأَطْعِمْنَا خَيْرًا مِنْهُ
In the name of Allah. O Allah, bless us in it and feed us better than it.
Bismillah, Allahumma barik lana fihi wa at'imna khayran minhu.
When to Read
This beautiful dua is recited before beginning any meal. It’s not just about asking Allah for sustenance, but also a subtle reminder to appreciate the hard work and effort that goes into bringing food to our tables – the farmer tilling the land, the labourers harvesting, and all those involved in the chain that makes our meals possible.
How to Read
As you prepare to eat, hold your hand over your plate or bowl (if applicable) and recite 'Bismillah' to invoke Allah's name. Then, say the full dua: 'Allahumma barik lana fihi wa at'imna khayran minhu.' It’s a simple yet profound act of gratitude, acknowledging Allah as the ultimate provider and recognizing the human effort involved.

Narrated by Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'There is no one who says: 'Bismillah' when eating, and Allah blesses it, except that it is enough for all the food that was in the dish. And whoever stands up after finishing and says: 'Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah,' then Allah will forgive him for what he did in his gathering.' Another narration adds: 'And whoever says: 'Bismillah, Allahumma barik lana fihi wa at'imna khayran minhu' before eating, then that will suffice for him.'
