When to Read

This beautiful dua is recommended for all Muslims, especially when traveling, before partaking in any meal. It's a moment to pause and acknowledge Allah's provision, asking for His blessings on the food and protection from the Fire, a profound request that encompasses both worldly and hereafter well-being.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and presence of heart before you begin eating. It's ideal to say it while standing or sitting at the table, just as you are about to take the first bite. Remember that the intention is key; focus on seeking Allah's pleasure and acknowledging His immense blessings.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua carries immense blessings. By asking for Barakah (blessing) in our sustenance, we invite goodness and sufficiency into our lives, no matter how little the provision may seem. The request to be saved from the Fire is a reminder of our ultimate accountability and a plea for Allah's mercy on the Day of Judgment. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this comprehensive supplication, showing us how even the simple act of eating can be a source of spiritual growth and reward.

Source & Authentication

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to teach his companions the Dua to be said at the time of eating: 'Allahumma barik lana fima razaqtana wa qina 'adhaban-nar' (O Allah, bless us in what You have provided us, and save us from the punishment of the Fire). When food was brought before them, they would not leave it until the Prophet ﷺ would either have eaten from it, or he would have ordered them to eat it. (He also reported) that the Prophet ﷺ brought him some dates and said: 'Eat this, for I have prayed in this prayer of mine that Allah makes it to be a great blessing for you.'
