بِسْمِ اللهِ
In the name of Allah
Bismillah
When to Read
This dua is recited just before starting any meal or drink, whether it's a small snack or a large feast. It's an act of seeking Allah's blessing over our sustenance and a shield against Shaytan's interference.
How to Read
Simply say 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah) aloud or silently before you begin eating or drinking. It's a simple yet profound statement that acknowledges Allah's provision and asks for His protection over the act of consumption.
Virtues & Benefits
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that by saying 'Bismillah' before eating, Shaytan is prevented from joining in the meal. If a person forgets to say it at the beginning, and remembers while eating, they should say 'Bismillah awwalahu wa akhirahu' (In the name of Allah at the beginning and at the end of it). This practice ensures our sustenance is blessed and free from the whispers and ill influences of Shaytan.
