بِسْمِ اللَّهِ. اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيمَا رَزَقْتَنَا وَاقْفِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ.
In the name of Allah. O Allah, bless us in what You have provided us and save us from the punishment of the Fire.
Bismillah. Allahumma barik lana fima razaqtana waqfina 'adhaban-nar.
When to Read
This beautiful dua is recited before eating. It's not just about asking for sustenance, but for the blessings within that food to give us strength, energy, and ultimately, to be a means for us to be saved from the Hellfire.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity before you start your meal. It's customary to say 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah) even before this dua, as a general remembrance of Allah before any action. This invocation asks for barakah (blessings) in the food, which means the food will be beneficial, sufficient, and will give us the energy we need.
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting this dua before eating brings Allah's blessings into our meal. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua not only to thank Allah for provision but also to seek His protection. By asking to be saved from the Fire, we are making a profound supplication that this sustenance helps us lead a life pleasing to Allah, which is our ultimate protection.

Narrated by Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Do not sit like those who are sitting lazily, for verily Allah hates laziness.' He then mentioned the hadeeth which includes: 'When any one of you eats, he should say: Bismillah. If he forgets to say it at the beginning, he should say it when he remembers: Bismillahi awwalahu wa akhirahu (In the name of Allah at the beginning and at the end).' (This refers to the dua taught by the Prophet ﷺ after he saw someone not mentioning Allah's name before eating). Another narration in Sunan Abi Dawud (3767) states the dua as: 'Allahumma barik lana fima razaqtana waqfina 'adhaban-nar' (O Allah, bless us in what You have provided us and save us from the punishment of the Fire).
