بِسْمِ اللَّهِ.
In the name of Allah.
Bismillah.
When to Read
This simple, yet profound, dua is recited before starting any meal. It's particularly relevant when you're seeking Allah's blessing and guidance to control your appetite and avoid overeating. Saying 'Bismillah' is a constant reminder that all actions, including eating, should be done with Allah's name and for His pleasure.
How to Read
Recite 'Bismillah' sincerely before taking the first bite. It's not just about uttering the words, but about the intention behind them – acknowledging Allah's provision and asking for His help in consuming the food in a way that benefits your body and soul, rather than harms them. It's also a practice that invites Allah's blessing into the food itself.
Virtues & Benefits
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that saying 'Bismillah' before eating invites Allah's blessing upon the food. He ﷺ said: 'When any one of you eats, he should say Bismillah. If he forgets to say it before starting, then he should say it when he remembers it: 'Bismillahi awwalahu wa akhirahu' (In the name of Allah at the beginning and at the end)."' (Sunan Abi Dawud 3767, Sahih al-Bukhari 5376). This blessing can help prevent overeating by guiding you to eat what is sufficient and beneficial. It turns a mundane act into an act of worship, fostering gratitude and self-control.
