اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا
O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provision, and accepted deeds.
Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan
When to Read
This dua is best recited just before starting to eat. While it's not specifically tied to food, its request for 'pure provision' (rizqan tayyiban) makes it particularly relevant when about to partake in sustenance. It reminds us to seek blessings and purity not just in our actions, but also in what we consume.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a present heart. Imagine asking Allah for the best of what you are about to receive and for it to be a source of good for you, both in this life and the next. It’s a brief but powerful supplication that sets a proper intention for the meal.
Virtues & Benefits
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would often supplicate like this in the morning, asking for three crucial things: beneficial knowledge to guide our actions, pure provision that nourishes us properly and is obtained lawfully, and accepted deeds that are pleasing to Allah. By reciting this before eating, we are essentially asking Allah to make the food we consume a source of strength for good deeds and to purify our provision, ensuring it is pleasing to Him.

Narrated by Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her): She said, 'O Messenger of Allah, what is the most frequent supplication the Messengers make?' He said, 'O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter.' He said: 'And what is the most frequent supplication of the Messengers?' He said: 'O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provision, and accepted deeds.' (This latter part is narrated by Umm Salamah, while the former is narrated by Abdullah ibn Abbas).
