Before Eating
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud, Sunan At-Tirmidhi 5105 (Abi Dawud), 3461 (Tirmidhi)

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنِي هَذَا وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ

All praise is due to Allah Who has fed me this and provided it for me without any strength or power from my side.

*Alhamdulillah alladhi at'amani hadha wa razaqanihi min ghairi hawlin minni wa la quwwah*

Virtues & Benefits

This dua teaches us humility and dependence on Allah. When we taste something new and delicious, it's easy to simply enjoy the sensation. This dua shifts our focus from the flavor itself to the Divine source of that sustenance, reminding us that all provision comes from Allah and that we have no inherent power or might to obtain it ourselves. It cultivates a deep sense of thankfulness and acknowledges Allah's continuous blessings in our lives, fostering a stronger connection with our Creator.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to say when food was presented to him: 'O Allah, praise be to You as You have fed me and given me to drink. Praise be to You as You have sufficed me and given me water. Praise be to You for all the blessings.' And when a new food was brought to him, he would say: الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنِي هَذَا وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ 'Alhamdulillah alladhi at'amani hadha wa razaqanihi min ghairi hawlin minni wa la quwwah.' (Translation: All praise is due to Allah Who has fed me this and provided it for me without any strength or power from my side.)
