اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيمَا رَزَقْتَنَا، وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا، وَارْحَمْنَا
O Allah, bless us in what You have provided us, forgive us, and have mercy on us.
Allahumma barik lana fima razaqtana, waghfir lana, warhamna
When to Read
This dua is recited before starting a meal, whether it is a small snack or a full feast. It's a beautiful way to acknowledge the sustenance provided by Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) before partaking in it.
How to Read
Recite this dua sincerely with the intention of remembering Allah's blessings. It is often recited before the first bite. Some traditions suggest it can be recited even if you are eating alone, as the purpose is the remembrance and gratitude towards the Creator.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication encompasses gratitude for provision, seeking forgiveness for any shortcomings in our thankfulness, and asking for Allah's mercy, which is the ultimate source of all blessings. By remembering Allah before eating, we turn a mundane act into an act of worship, fostering humility and recognizing that all sustenance comes from Him alone. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that eating without remembering Allah is like enjoying something that is not rightfully ours, and that the devil participates in the meal of one who does not say Allah's name. (Sahih Muslim 2044, Sunan Abi Dawud 3767)

It was narrated from Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'When one of you enters his house and mentions Allah, Glorified and Praised be He, when he enters and when he eats, Satan says: 'You have no place to spend the night and no food.' When he enters and does not mention Allah, Glorified and Praised be He, Satan says: 'You have found a place to spend the night,' and when he does not mention Allah when eating, Satan says: 'You have found a place to spend the night and food.' (Sahih Muslim 2044). Another narration from Umar bin Abi Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) states: 'I was a boy under the care of Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him). My hand used to wander all over the plate. So Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said to me: 'O boy, mention Allah's name, and eat with your right hand, and eat from what is nearest to you.' And that remained my way of eating thereafter.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 5376)
