بِسْمِ اللهِ، اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيمَا رَزَقْتَنَا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا
In the name of Allah. O Allah, bless us in what You have provided us, forgive us and have mercy upon us.
Bismillahi, Allahumma barik lana fima razaqtana waghfir lana warhamna.
When to Read
This dua is recited before starting any meal. It's a beautiful reminder to begin any action, especially something as essential as eating, with remembrance of Allah and seeking His blessings.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and mindfulness. Begin with 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah) as is the general Sunnah before eating or doing any good deed. Then, follow with the rest of the dua, acknowledging Allah as the Provider and seeking His forgiveness and mercy.
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting this dua before eating brings Allah's blessings into the food and the act of eating itself. It transforms a mundane activity into an act of worship, seeking divine favour for sustenance, forgiveness for any shortcomings, and mercy from our Creator. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that a meal is a blessing, and seeking Allah's blessing upon it ensures its purity and benefit. This practice cultivates gratitude and humility, reminding us that all provision comes from Allah.

Jabir reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'When one of you enters his house and remembers Allah the Exalted upon entering and upon eating, Satan says: "You have no place to pass the night and no dinner." When he enters and does not remember Allah the Exalted upon entering, Satan says: "You have found a place to pass the night." And when he does not remember Allah the Exalted upon eating, Satan says: "You have found a place to pass the night and dinner."' (Sahih Muslim 2044). The version used here is also found in Sunan Abi Dawud 3767, where the dua is: 'Bismillah. Allahumma barik lana fima razaqtana wa qina 'adhaban-nar.' (In the name of Allah. O Allah, bless us in that which You have provided us and save us from the punishment of the Fire.). The core intention of seeking blessing and acknowledging Allah's provision remains consistent.
