When to Read

This dua is recited before starting any meal. It's a beautiful way to acknowledge Allah's provision and seek His protection as we nourish ourselves.

How to Read

Recite this with sincere intention, ideally before taking the first bite. It's often recited in a soft voice, acknowledging that Allah hears our quietest supplications.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses gratitude for sustenance and seeks Allah's protection from the Hellfire. By asking for blessings in our provisions, we acknowledge that true nourishment comes from Allah, and by asking to be saved from the Fire, we are reminded of our ultimate accountability. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this comprehensive supplication, showing how even our daily acts like eating can be connected to seeking Allah's favor and avoiding His displeasure.

Source & Authentication

Jabir b. 'Abdullah (Allah be pleased with them) reported: I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: 'When a person enters his house and mentions the name of Allah upon entering and upon eating, Satan says: 'You (O Satan) have no lodging and no food (for the night).' And when he enters without mentioning the name of Allah, Satan says: 'You have found lodging, and when he does not mention the name of Allah on eating, Satan says: 'You have found lodging and food.'
