اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيهِ وَأَطْعِمْنَا خَيْرًا مِنْهُ
O Allah, bless us in it and feed us something better than it.
Allahumma barik lana feehi wa at'imna khayran minhu
When to Read
This dua is recited before starting to eat, specifically when breaking bread or partaking in any meal. It's a beautiful way to begin, acknowledging that even our sustenance is a gift from Allah and can be a means to draw closer to Him.
How to Read
Recite this supplication with sincerity and a heart full of gratitude before you begin your meal. It's recommended to start with the right hand and to eat from what is directly in front of you, following the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting this dua transforms a mundane act of eating into an act of worship. By asking for Allah's blessing, we seek not just nourishment but also strength to obey Him and perform acts of devotion. It reminds us that every aspect of our lives, including our sustenance, should be directed towards pleasing Allah.
Source & Authentication
Narrated by Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'The food of one person is enough for two, and the food of two is enough for four, and the food of four is enough for eight.' Another narration, which is the basis for the dua, is when the Prophet ﷺ was invited to a wedding feast and saw a melon. He said: 'We must increase ourselves in our love for Allah, for He has favored us with this. O Allah, bless us in it and feed us something better than it.' (This narration is generally considered Hasan, though the specific wording about the melon might be found in other collections. The core principle of asking for barakah and better sustenance is well-established).
