بِسْمِ اللهِ
In the name of Allah.
Bismillah
When to Read
This simple yet profound dua is recited before beginning any meal, or even taking the first bite of food. It's a reminder of where this sustenance truly comes from.
How to Read
Utter 'Bismillah' with sincerity as you pick up your first bite or lift your utensil. It can be said aloud or silently, but the intention in your heart is what truly matters. Remembering to say it is key, even if you forget at the start of the meal, say it as soon as you remember, even for the next bite.
Virtues & Benefits
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that saying 'Bismillah' before eating is a way to invite Allah's blessings into our food and protect us from Shaytan. In one narration, 'Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: "When any one of you eats, he should say 'Bismillah'. If he forgets to say 'Bismillah' at the beginning, he should say 'Bismillah fi awwalihi wa akhirih' (In the name of Allah, at the beginning and at the end of it)." (Sunan Abi Dawud 3767). This practice not only safeguards our meal but also cultivates gratitude, reminding us that every provision is a gift from the Almighty, who has the ultimate power to provide.
