حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ
Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.
Hasbunallahu wa ni'mal wakeel
When to Read
This powerful declaration is best recited when facing overwhelming challenges, moments of fear, or when feeling utterly helpless. It's the believer's shield and comfort when all other means seem exhausted. Imagine yourself facing a daunting task, a difficult decision, or a situation that fills you with anxiety. Instead of succumbing to worry, turn to this phrase. It's a way to consciously hand over your concerns to the One who has absolute power and wisdom. This was famously said by Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) when he was thrown into the fire, and by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his companions when they were told 'Indeed, the people have gathered against you, so fear them.' (Surah Al Imran 3:173). Their reliance on Allah was unwavering.
How to Read
Recite it with sincere conviction, understanding that you are placing your complete trust in Allah. It's not just a phrase to utter; it's a state of the heart. Feel the weight of your troubles lifting as you acknowledge Allah's sufficiency. When you say 'Hasbunallahu', you are affirming Allah's absolute ability to manage and control all affairs. When you follow it with 'wa ni'mal wakeel', you are declaring that He is the most perfect and trustworthy guardian and administrator you could ever have. Let your tongue speak it, but let your heart truly embody its meaning.
Virtues & Benefits
This statement is a cornerstone of Tawakkul (reliance on Allah). When uttered with true faith, it brings immense peace and security. It's a direct pathway to Allah's help and protection. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was thrown into the fire, he said: ‘Hasbunallahu wa ni'mal wakeel.’ And Allah, the Mighty and Glorious, said: ‘O fire, be coolness and safety upon Ibrahim!’' (Sahih al-Bukhari 4563). In another narration concerning the Battle of Uhud, when the Muslims faced a difficult situation, Allah revealed the ayah: 'And they returned with favor from Allah and bounty, not having suffered evil. And they followed [in obedience to] the will of Allah. And Allah is the Owner of great bounty.' (Al Imran 3:174), which followed the statement of the companions: 'Hasbunallahu wa ni'mal wakeel.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 4563). This shows how this declaration is met with Allah's direct intervention and favor.
