Du'a for Strength When Overwhelmed by Unmet Expectations

Anxiety & Distress
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 2393

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your judgment upon me is inevitable. Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept with You in the knowledge of the unseen. I ask that You make the Quran the delight of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the reliever of my worries.

Allahumma inni 'abdak, ibn 'abdik, ibn amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukkumuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw anzaltahu fi kitatik, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm il-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Du'a is the weapon of the believer, and it is the pillar of religion, and it is the light of the heavens and the earth.' (Reported by Al-Hakim and authenticated by Al-Albani). This particular du'a, as narrated by Al-Bazzar and deemed Hasan by some scholars, is a comprehensive supplication by the Prophet ﷺ himself in times of severe worry.
