Dua for Strength When Facing the Fear of Abandonment

Anxiety & Distress
Sahih HadithMusnad Ahmad 3701

O Allah, indeed I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forehead is in Your hand (meaning I am under Your control). Your command over me is forever established. Your judgment over me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or taught to any one of Your creation, or revealed in Your Book, or have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the delight of my heart, and the light of my chest, and a banisher of my sadness and a reliever of my anxiety.

Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibn 'abdika, ibn amatika, nasiyatii bi-yadik, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qadaa'uka, as'aluka bi-kulli-smin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw anzaltahu fi kitābika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm-il-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabī'a qalbii, wa nūra sadrii, wa jalaa'a huznii, wa dhahaba hammii.

When to Read

Recite this dua whenever you feel the weight of loneliness, the sting of fear, or the dread of being left alone. It's particularly potent when anxiety starts to creep in, whispering doubts about your security and belonging. Before significant life changes, during times of isolation, or simply when you need an anchor, turn to this prayer.

How to Read

Recite with sincerity and a humble heart. Understand that you are presenting yourself to Allah (SWT) in complete dependence, acknowledging His absolute power and sovereignty. Feel the weight of each word as you affirm your servitude and seek His help through the specific ways mentioned in the dua – His names, His book, and His divine decree. Believe that Allah (SWT) will respond to your sincere supplication.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a powerful antidote to feelings of abandonment and distress. By turning to Allah (SWT) and invoking Him by His perfect names, you acknowledge that He is the ultimate source of strength, comfort, and security. Making the Qur'an the light of your heart and the banisher of your sadness is a profound way to find solace in Allah's (SWT) guidance and promises, reminding you that you are never truly alone when you have Him. It cultivates reliance (tawakkul) and strengthens your connection with your Creator, transforming fear into faith and despair into hope.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to a companion who was suffering from intense worry and grief. He advised him to ask Allah (SWT) with this supplication, emphasizing the importance of asking by the names of Allah (SWT) and the Qur'an. The companion later reported that Allah (SWT) had indeed removed his worries and grief.
