Dua for Strength When Emotionally Drained

Anxiety & Distress
Sahih HadithMusnad Ahmad 3596

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is effective. Your judgment upon me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen that is with You, to make the Quran the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my grief, and the remover of my anxiety.

Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatika, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka, sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw anzaltahu fi kitabika, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm-il-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'al al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

When to Read

Recite this dua when you feel overwhelmed by life's pressures, burdened by worries, or when a general sense of emotional exhaustion sets in. It's particularly helpful when you need a spiritual anchor and a reminder of Allah's power and presence during difficult times.

How to Read

Believe in the power of Allah's names and attributes as you recite. Recognize your own dependence on Him, just as the hadith describes. Speak from the heart, truly feeling the weight of your burdens and the earnestness of your request for the Quran to be a source of solace and guidance. It is best to recite this with sincerity and concentration, ideally after an obligatory prayer or at a time when you can focus without distraction.

Virtues & Benefits

This profound supplication seeks Allah's help through His perfect names and attributes, acknowledging His absolute control. The ultimate benefit is turning to the Quran as the divine remedy for emotional distress. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ described the Quran as 'the springtime of the heart,' bringing life and renewal to a soul that feels dry and weary, thus alleviating sadness and anxiety.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud: The Prophet ﷺ said, 'No person suffered any anxiety or grief, and then said: O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is effective. Your judgment upon me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen that is with You, to make the Quran the springtime of my heart, and the light of my chest, and the banisher of my grief, and the remover of my anxiety, but Allah would take away his anxiety and grief and replace it with joy.'
