O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the overwhelming burden of debt and from being overpowered by men.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabad-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.
When to Read
Recite this dua when you feel the weight of overwhelming situations, making you susceptible to temptation. It's particularly useful when anxiety and distress make it hard to make sound decisions, and you feel a pull towards wrong or easy but harmful paths. Say it in the morning and evening, as the Prophet ﷺ used to do.
How to Read
Raise your hands slightly, with the palms facing upwards, and recite with sincerity and a humble heart. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, truly seeking Allah's protection. Understand that this dua is not just a set of words, but a deep plea for divine assistance against internal and external pressures that can lead to sin.
Virtues & Benefits
This powerful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself, offers comprehensive protection. It shields you from mental anguish (anxiety and sorrow), weakness in resolve (incapacity and laziness), and moral frailty (cowardice and stinginess). By seeking refuge from these, you strengthen your inner resilience against temptations that arise from feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or powerless. It's a shield against the external pressures that can make us fall into what is displeasing to Allah.
