Dua for Strength to Overcome the Fear of Social Rejection

Anxiety & Distress
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 3700

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your judgment upon me is inevitable. Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or taught to any one of Your creation, or revealed in Your Book, or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen which is with You, that You make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, and the light of my chest, the banisher of my grief, and the remover of my anxiety.

Allahumma inni 'abdak, ibnu 'abdik, ibnu amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'alil-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

When to Read

Recite this when you feel overwhelmed by anxiety, particularly the fear of what others might think or say. It's powerful to recite this after your obligatory prayers, or any time you feel your chest tightening with worry about social interactions. You can also say it when preparing for a situation that might trigger feelings of inadequacy or fear of rejection.

How to Read

Recite with sincerity and conviction, focusing on the meaning of the words. Raise your hands in supplication as you would when making any other dua. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that Allah is shy to turn away from His servant who raises his hands in supplication, so make the most of this beautiful dua. Take deep breaths and visualize Allah's mercy and power as you speak to Him.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly addresses anxiety and grief ('huzn' and 'hamm') by asking Allah to make the Qur'an the source of relief and light. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself turned to this dua when facing distress. By seeking refuge in Allah and His perfect words, we find strength and solace, which can greatly diminish the fear of social rejection by reminding us that our ultimate validation comes from our Creator, not from people.
