Dua for Strength and Resilience After Life's Setbacks

Anxiety & Distress
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 771

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is unfailing. Your justice in my case is inevitable. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to anyone from Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or kept secret in the knowledge of the unseen with You, to make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the remover of my grief, and the banisher of my worry.

Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukkamuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka, sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw anzaltahu fi kitabika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm il-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

When to Read

Recite this dua when you feel overwhelmed by grief, anxiety, or the weight of a major setback. It's particularly powerful when facing difficulties that seem to drain your spirit and cloud your perspective. Use it during times of deep sadness, when you need to reconnect with your inner strength and find solace.

How to Read

Make this dua with sincerity and a humble heart. Imagine yourself standing before Allah, acknowledging His absolute power and control over all things. Raise your hands (if possible and appropriate) and pour out your heart, truly believing in the ability of the Qur'an, as the words of Allah, to heal and guide you. Focus on each phrase, understanding the profound request you are making for spiritual renewal and peace.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a profound supplication that seeks spiritual healing and relief from distress. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to be recited by someone experiencing distress. It seeks to transform the pain of life's challenges by turning to the Divine source of guidance and comfort – the Qur'an. By asking Allah to make the Qur'an the 'springtime of the heart,' one is asking for renewal, growth, and life to flourish even in barren times. The 'light of the chest' signifies clarity and understanding, while 'remover of grief' and 'banisher of worry' directly address the emotional turmoil that follows a setback.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from 'Abdullah that the Prophet ﷺ said: "No person suffered any anxiety or grief, and then said: 'O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is unfailing. Your justice in my case is inevitable. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to anyone from Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or kept secret in the knowledge of the unseen with You, to make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the remover of my grief, and the banisher of my worry,' but Allah would take away his grief and compensate him with joy because of it." It was said: 'O Messenger of Allah, should we learn these words?' He said: "Yes, indeed. It is necessary for everyone who hears them to learn them." (Sahih Muslim)
