O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, from a heart that does not fear You, from a soul that is not satisfied, and from a supplication that is not answered. O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'ilmin la yanfa', wa min qalbin la yakhsha', wa min nafsin la tashba', wa min du'a'in la yusma'. Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina.
When to Read
Recite this dua when you feel overwhelmed by the fear of people leaving you, or the dread of being betrayed by those you trust. It's particularly potent during moments of loneliness or when past experiences of abandonment resurface, causing anxiety. Making it a regular practice, especially after Fajr prayer, can build inner resilience.
How to Read
With sincere intention and conviction, raise your hands and recite this dua. Focus on each phrase, truly seeking Allah's protection from these specific spiritual and emotional afflictions. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us the importance of seeking refuge in Allah. Reflect on the meaning of seeking knowledge that benefits, a heart that fears Allah, a soul content, and a prayer that is answered, as these are antidotes to feelings of inadequacy and fear.
Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive dua seeks refuge from four things that can lead to spiritual and emotional emptiness: useless knowledge that doesn't lead to action or awe of Allah, a heart devoid of His fear (which can lead to disobedience and hardness), a soul that is never satisfied (leading to constant craving and discontent), and unanswered prayers (which can breed despair). By seeking these specific protections, we bolster our reliance on Allah and ask for the qualities that foster inner peace and strength, which are essential when facing the fear of abandonment and betrayal. It also asks for the positive attributes of guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment, equipping us to face life's trials with faith.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to supplicate: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, from a heart that does not fear You, from a soul that is not satisfied, and from a supplication that is not answered.' He would often say these words when he got up in the morning. (Sahih Muslim 1540)
