Dua for Relief from the Stinging Embarrassment of Public Mistakes

Anxiety & Distress
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 3905

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is effective. Your judgment concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen which You possess, that You make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, and the light of my chest, and a remover of my sadness and a disperser of my worries.

Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatika, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya huku-muka, 'adlun fiyya qadaa'uka, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka sammaita bihi nafsaka, aw anzaltahu fi kitabi-ka, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqi-ka, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa noora sadri, wa jalaa'a huzni, wa dhahaaba hammi.

This comprehensive dua addresses the core of our distress when we err publicly. By acknowledging Allah's absolute power and sovereignty ('Nasiyatii biyadika' - My forelock is in Your hand), we submit our shame and fear to Him. The specific request to make the Qur'an the 'springtime of my heart' signifies its power to bring life, joy, and renewal to our inner selves, eradicating the 'sadness' and 'worries' that public mistakes can cause. It reminds us that true peace and guidance come from Allah's divine words, which can heal our spiritual and emotional wounds.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught this dua to his companions, particularly when one of them asked him to teach him a comprehensive prayer.
