O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, and I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, and I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the oppression of men.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, focusing on each part of the supplication. Imagine yourself laying your burdens before Allah. It is recommended to raise your hands slightly when making this dua, as was the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Believe that Allah is the only one who can truly relieve your distress and grant you a way out. It can be recited at any time, but making it a regular part of your morning or evening supplications, or reciting it during moments of need, is highly beneficial.
Virtues & Benefits
This powerful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his companion Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), is a comprehensive shield against numerous afflictions that can make one feel trapped. It seeks refuge in Allah from: * **Distress (Ham) and Sorrow (Huzn):** These are the primary emotional states that lead to feeling overwhelmed and trapped. Seeking refuge from them directly addresses the root of such feelings. * **Incapacity ('Ajz) and Laziness (Kasal):** These make one feel powerless and unable to act, contributing to the sensation of being stuck. By seeking refuge from them, we ask Allah for the strength and motivation to overcome obstacles. * **Cowardice (Jubn) and Stinginess (Buhl):** Cowardice can prevent one from taking necessary steps or facing challenges, while stinginess can lead to further difficulties. Both can exacerbate feelings of helplessness. * **Burden of Debt (Ghalabatid-dayn) and Oppression of Men (Qahrir-rijal):** These are tangible pressures that can create immense stress and a feeling of being trapped by obligations or by the actions of others. Seeking Allah's protection from them is a plea for financial and social liberation. By reciting this dua, we are asking Allah for protection against both internal struggles (emotions, character traits) and external pressures (debt, oppression), which are common causes of feeling trapped.
