Dua for Relief from the Constant Fear of Impending Doom

Anxiety & Distress
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 3712

O Allah, indeed I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is inevitable, and Your justice over me is fair. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to any of Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Quran the springtime of my heart, and the light of my chest, and a banisher of my grief, and a remover of my worries.

Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibn 'abdika, ibn amatika, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka. As'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka, sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw anzaltahu fi kitabika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

Source & Authentication

I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: 'There is no servant who says, “Allahumma inni ‘abduka, ibn ‘abdika, ibn amatika, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, ‘adlun fiyya qada’uka. As’aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka, sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw ‘allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw anzaltahu fi kitabika, aw ista’tharta bihi fi ‘ilmil-ghaybi ‘indaka, an taj’ala al-Qur’ana rabi’a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila’a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi,” but his grief will be removed, and his worries will be replaced by happiness.' It was asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, should we learn these words?' He replied: 'Yes, it is incumbent upon everyone who hears them to learn them.' (Narrated by Ahmad and graded Hasan by some scholars)
