Dua for Relief from the Anxiety of Social Pressure and Judgment

Anxiety & Distress
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2722

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, from a heart that does not fear (You), from a soul that is not satisfied, and from a prayer that is not answered. O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and self-sufficiency.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'ilmin la yanfa', wa min qalbin la yakhsha', wa min nafsin la tashba', wa min du'a'in la yusma'. Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina.

When to Read

This dua is powerful when you feel the weight of others' expectations bearing down on you, or when you worry excessively about what people think. Recite it before important social interactions, when you're feeling self-conscious, or anytime anxiety about judgment creeps in. It's a comprehensive plea for inner peace and reliance on Allah, not on the fickle opinions of creation.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. Raise your hands slightly, as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught is a sign of earnest supplication. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, internalizing your plea for Allah's protection and provision. It's best recited after the obligatory prayers or during the times when duas are more readily answered, like the last third of the night or between the Adhan and Iqamah.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly addresses the root of anxiety stemming from social pressure. By seeking refuge from useless knowledge and a restless heart, you shield yourself from the internal turmoil that fuels these fears. Asking for guidance (huda), piety (tuqa), chastity ('afaf), and self-sufficiency (ghina) equips you with the inner strength to be content with Allah's decree, rather than seeking validation from people. It redirects your focus from the fleeting approval of others to the eternal satisfaction of your Creator.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to seek refuge in Allah with these words: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'ilmin la yanfa', wa min qalbin la yakhsha', wa min nafsin la tashba', wa min du'a'in la yusma'. Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina.' (Sahih Muslim 2722)
