Dua for Relief from the Anxiety of Seeking Employment and Financial Instability

Anxiety & Distress
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 1/391

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your judgment upon me is inevitable. Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to anyone from Your creation, or taught to anyone from Your knowledge, or sent down in Your Book, or kept exclusively with You in the knowledge of the unseen, that You make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the remover of my grief, and the banisher of my worries.

Allahumma inni 'abdika, ibn 'abdika, ibn amatik, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm il-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

How to Read

With sincere intention and conviction, raise your hands as you would in supplication. Utter these words with a humble heart, focusing on the meaning and seeking Allah's mercy. It can be recited anytime, but especially during moments of intense worry or before making important decisions related to your career or finances.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua addresses several key aspects of seeking relief. By acknowledging Allah's absolute control ('nasitatii biyadika'), we submit our affairs to Him. Asking by His unique names highlights His perfect attributes and our need for them. Most significantly, this dua connects the relief of grief and worry directly to the Qur'an, which the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ described as the 'spring of the heart.' It is a reminder that true peace and contentment are found in our connection with Allah and His Book.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'There is no servant who is afflicted with distress and then says: "O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your judgment upon me is inevitable. Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to anyone from Your creation, or taught to anyone from Your knowledge, or sent down in Your Book, or kept exclusively with You in the knowledge of the unseen, that You make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the remover of my grief, and the banisher of my worries." - unless Allah removes his distress and replaces his grief with joy.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, should we learn these words?' He said: 'Yes, it is incumbent upon everyone who hears them to learn them.' (Reported by Ahmad and Al-Hakim, who authenticated it and Muslim agreed.)
