Anxiety & Distress
Sahih HadithMusnad Ahmad 3796

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective. Your decision concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or that You have taught to anyone among Your creation, or that You have revealed in Your Book, or that You have retained in the knowledge of the unseen with You, to make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the remover of my anxiety.

Allahumma inni 'abdika, ibn 'abdika, ibn amatika, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw anzaltahu fi kitabika, aw 'aestatharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaibi 'indaka, an taj'al al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'There is no one who has an anxiety in his heart and says: {Allahumma inni 'abdun, ibn 'abdun, ibn amatun, nasaniyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka, 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw anzaltahu fi kitabika, aw 'aestatharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaibi 'indaka, an taj'al al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi} (O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective. Your decision concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or that You have taught to anyone among Your creation, or that You have revealed in Your Book, or that You have retained in the knowledge of the unseen with You, to make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the remover of my anxiety) – except that Allah will remove his anxiety and replace his sadness with joy.' Then it was said to him: 'O Messenger of Allah, should we learn these words?' He said: 'Yes, it is necessary for everyone who hears them to learn them.'
