Dua for Relief from Social Pressure and Judgment

Anxiety & Distress
Sahih HadithMusnad Ahmad 1/391

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective. Your judgment on me is just. I ask You by every name You have called Yourself, or revealed to anyone from Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen, that You make the Qur'an the delight of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my grief, and the remover of my worries.

Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibnu 'abdik, ibnu amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitibik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

When to Read

Recite this dua when you feel overwhelmed by the opinions of others, the fear of judgment, or the pressure to conform. It is particularly beneficial when facing situations where social acceptance feels paramount, or when the weight of others' expectations becomes a burden.

How to Read

Recite with sincerity and conviction, focusing on the meaning of each phrase. Understand that your ultimate worth and security lie with Allah alone. Raise your hands as you would in any supplication, and feel the immense power and mercy of Allah, the One who knows your innermost state and has full control over all affairs.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful supplication, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to a man who was struggling with anxiety and worry, directly addresses the root of social pressure – the fear of what others think. By seeking refuge in Allah and asking Him to make the Qur'an the source of comfort and clarity, we shift our focus from the transient opinions of people to the eternal guidance of Allah. The Prophet ﷺ's own example shows us that turning to Allah in supplication is the ultimate solution for all distress.

Source & Authentication

A man came to Allah's Messenger ﷺ and said, 'O Allah's Messenger! I am a man who is often restless and has a lot of worries.' Allah's Messenger ﷺ replied, 'Shall I not teach you words to say when you are worried or restless?' The man said, 'Yes, of course.' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Say: Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibnu 'abdik, ibnu amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitibik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.' (O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective. Your judgment on me is just. I ask You by every name You have called Yourself, or revealed to anyone from Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen, that You make the Qur'an the delight of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my grief, and the remover of my worries.) The man said, 'I said them, and Allah removed my worries and my restlessness.'
