Anxiety & Distress
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 72

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا.

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

Recite this dua in the morning after Fajr prayer. It’s particularly helpful when you find yourself overly worried about material possessions, constantly striving for more, or feeling distressed by the fluctuating nature of wealth. This supplication redirects your focus from the transient to the eternal, seeking blessings that truly benefit you in this life and the next.

How to Read

Raise your hands in supplication as you recite this dua, preferably after completing your obligatory prayers. Begin with the remembrance of Allah and sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Utter the words with sincerity and full presence of heart, truly believing in Allah's ability to provide what is beneficial. Reflect on the meaning of each part: asking for knowledge that guides, provision that is pure and permissible, and deeds that are accepted by our Creator.

Virtues & Benefits

This profound dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, shifts our perspective from the accumulation of worldly goods to the pursuit of what truly matters. By asking for beneficial knowledge, we seek wisdom to understand our purpose and to navigate life's challenges, including our relationship with wealth. Requesting goodly provision acknowledges that true sustenance comes from Allah and seeks purity in our earnings, avoiding the distress that unlawful or ill-gotten wealth can bring. Finally, asking for acceptable deeds ensures our efforts are aligned with Allah's pleasure, leading to ultimate success and contentment. This holistic request helps sever unhealthy attachments to material things, as the believer realizes true wealth lies in knowledge, pure sustenance, and righteous actions.

Source & Authentication

Fatimah bint Qais (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that when the Prophet (peace be upon him) finished the prayer, he would raise his voice in supplication and then, turning to the people, he would say: 'No worshipper among the Muslims performs the prayer and then says three times: 'I testify that there is no god but Allah, He is One, He has no associate, 'Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, Allah is the Greatest,' and then says: 'O Allah, forgive me my sins, or grant me relief,' and supplicates, but Allah will grant him relief. Then he said: '...and then he says: 'O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, and goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.' He who asks for these things on that day does not fail to obtain them.'
