Dua for Inner Peace When Life Feels Unsettled

Anxiety & Distress
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 1/391

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female slave. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is forever executed. Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to anyone from Your creation, or You have kept to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen with You, to make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my grief, and the remover of my worries.

Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibnu 'abdik, ibnu amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm il-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana Rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

Source & Authentication

‘A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that when the Prophet (ﷺ) was distressed, he would say: >اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي عَبْدُكَ، ابْنُ عَبْدِكَ، ابْنُ أَمَتِكَ، نَاصِيَتِي بِيَدِكَ، مَاضٍ فِيَّ حُكْمُكَ، عَدْلٌ فِيَّ قَضَاؤُكَ، أَسْأَلُكَ بِكُلِّ اسْمٍ هُوَ لَكَ، سَمَّيْتَ بِهِ نَفْسَكَ، أَوْ عَلَّمْتَهُ أَحَدًا مِنْ خَلْقِكَ، أَوْ أَنْزَلْتَهُ فِي كِتَابِكَ، أَوْ اسْتَأْثَرْتَ بِهِ فِي عِلْمِ الْغَيْبِ عِنْدَكَ، أَنْ تَجْعَلَ الْقُرْآنَ رَبِيعَ قَلْبِي، وَنُورَ صَدْرِي، وَجِلَاءَ حُزْنِي، وَذَهَابَ هَمِّي. >And when the verses of the Qur'an were revealed: 'And to Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth...' (Surah Yunus, 10:16), he said: 'O Allah, make them a provision for me and a source of light for me...' until the end of the verse. >The hadith mentions that the Prophet (ﷺ) would also recite: >اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى >(O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and richness) >— Sahih Muslim 2721 (This specific phrasing is found in Musnad Ahmad, and related meanings are in Sahih Muslim)
