Dua for Calming the Heart Amidst Fear and Panic

Anxiety & Distress
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 4563

حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ

Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs.

Hasbunallahu wa ni'mal wakeel

When to Read

This powerful declaration is for moments when overwhelming fear grips your heart, when you feel helpless and utterly alone. It's the perfect response when the world feels like it's closing in, and you need an immediate anchor of faith. Think of the early Muslims facing immense opposition, or when you're confronted with a personal crisis that shakes your very foundations.

How to Read

Recite this with conviction, truly internalizing the meaning. Feel the weight of the words as you acknowledge that your ultimate reliance is on Allah. It's best recited when you feel the panic starting to rise, repeating it with sincerity and placing your trust fully in Allah's plan. Imagine you are speaking directly to Allah, entrusting Him with your situation.

Virtues & Benefits

When Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was thrown into the fire, he said this. Allah made the fire a coolness and safety for him. Similarly, when the Companions were told that the people (of Quraysh) had gathered against them, this very statement strengthened their faith and reassured them. (Sahih al-Bukhari 4563). It reminds us that no matter the scale of the threat, Allah's power and sufficiency are far greater. This declaration is a direct pathway to peace, as it acknowledges His dominion and our complete dependence on His will, transforming anxiety into trust.

Source & Authentication

Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: 'Sufficient for us is Allah, and [He] is the best disposer of affairs.' Ibrahim (peace be upon him) said it when he was thrown into the fire, and Muhammad (peace be upon him) said it when they (the hypocrites) said: 'Verily, the people have gathered against you (anew), so fear them.' But it only increased them in faith, and they said: 'Sufficient for us is Allah, and [He] is the best disposer of affairs.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 4563)
