Anxiety & Distress
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 5977

O Allah, I have submitted myself to You, and turned my face to You, and entrusted my affair to You, and sought refuge in You, desiring and fearing You. There is no refuge or safety from You except in You. I believe in the Book You have revealed and the Prophet You have sent.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to be recited before sleeping, encompasses the essence of complete reliance on Allah. By internalizing its meaning, one cultivates a deep sense of submission (Islam) and acceptance of Allah's Qadar (decree). It transforms feelings of discontent into trust, reminding us that even in difficult circumstances, Allah's wisdom is perfect and His plan is for our ultimate good. It shields the heart from anxiety and restlessness.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Ibn `Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them): The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'When you go to your bed, recite the verse: 'Allah! There is no god but He, the Living, the Self-subsisting by Whom all things subsist...' (2:255) till the end of the verse, and also 'Say: O disbelievers! (109:1) till the end of the surah. Then say: 'O Allah! I have submitted myself to You, and have turned my face to You, and entrusted my affair to You, and have sought refuge in You for support, being eager of Your punishment (i.e., undesired) and in hope of Your reward (i.e., desired). There is no refuge nor safety save in You. I believe in Your Book which You have revealed, and in Your Prophet whom You have sent.' If you die this night, you will die on Al-Fitra (the Religion of Islam). And make this the last utterance that you utter. (Sahih al-Bukhari 1116, also mentioned in other forms related to going to bed like Sahih al-Bukhari 6306). The specific wording in the entry is the supplication part taught for submission to Allah's will, often recited in this context.
