When to Read

Recite this comprehensive dua whenever you feel the heat of anger rising due to sarcasm or mockery. It's particularly beneficial when someone says something hurtful or belittling, and your immediate instinct is to retort with anger.

How to Read

This beautiful and concise dua is a complete package of requests to Allah. Focus on the meaning of each part as you say it. Visualize Allah's mercy and guidance covering you. You can say it silently or in a low voice, with sincerity and a sense of reliance on Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

While not directly about sarcasm, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this profound supplication as a way to seek comprehensive well-being from Allah. By asking for forgiveness, mercy, guidance, well-being, and provision, we are essentially strengthening our connection with Allah and building inner resilience. This can indirectly help us manage anger by reminding us of our dependence on Allah and His ultimate control. It helps shift our focus from the hurtful words to seeking what truly matters from the Creator. The Prophet ﷺ said this was the most frequent dua he made, indicating its immense importance for a Muslim's life.

Source & Authentication

Abu Malik Al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: '...The most frequent dua that I and the angels who are around me make is: Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him (Subhanaka Allahumma wa bi hamdika), and to You, a supplication for forgiveness and for passing the final stage (of repentance).' (Sahih Muslim 2697). *Note: While the direct text of the dua provided focuses on the requests for forgiveness, mercy, guidance, well-being, and provision, the context of the hadith by Abu Malik Al-Ash'ari highlights the prophetic practice of seeking comprehensive good through supplication. The dual aspect of glorifying Allah and seeking forgiveness/well-being is central. The given dua is a powerful distillation of seeking these benefits.*
