اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ سَمْعِي، وَمِنْ شَرِّ بَصَرِي، وَمِنْ شَرِّ لِسَانِي، وَمِنْ شَرِّ قَلْبِي، وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَنِيِّي "[Note: The last part 'وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَنِيِّي' is often omitted in versions discussing anger, but is part of the full dua. In the context of intense emotional distress, it can encompass seeking refuge from internal corruptions generally.]"
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my hearing, and from the evil of my sight, and from the evil of my tongue, and from the evil of my heart, and from the evil of my seminal fluid (or my soul/desires).
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min sharri sam'i, wa min sharri basari, wa min sharri lisani, wa min sharri qalbi, wa min sharri maniyyi.
When to Read
When you feel the sting of betrayal and anger begins to rise. It's a powerful reminder to seek divine protection before letting emotions take over. Recite it when the initial shock and hurt surface, and you feel yourself starting to react with resentment or harshness.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity, focusing on each word and its meaning. It's about acknowledging your own vulnerabilities and turning to Allah for strength. Ideally, take a moment to pause, breathe deeply, and then seek refuge in Allah's protection. You can say it silently to yourself or softly aloud.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua helps protect you from the internal turmoil that betrayal can unleash. By seeking refuge in Allah, you're asking Him to shield you from letting negative thoughts (evil of the heart), hurtful words (evil of the tongue), distorted perceptions (evil of sight), and harmful gossip (evil of hearing) take root. It's a proactive step to purify your intentions and reactions, allowing you to respond with more grace and less destructive anger. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this comprehensive seeking of refuge to protect against all forms of internal and external harm.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to seek refuge in Allah from the evil of this world and the evil of the Hereafter, and from the evil of His creation. He would also say: "Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min sharri sam'i, wa min sharri basari, wa min sharri lisani, wa min sharri qalbi, wa min sharri maniyyi." This supplication was authenticated as Hasan by Imam Al-Tirmidhi, and narrated by Abu Dawud and others.
