Dua for Suppressing Anger at the Taste of Bitter Food

Anger
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 22376

اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا بَرْدًا وَّسَلَامًا كَمَا جَعَلْتَ النَّارَ بَرْدًا وَّسَلَامًا عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيْمَ

O Allah, make it [this bitter taste] cool and safe, just as You made the fire cool and safe for Ibrahim.

Allahumma ij'alha bar dan wa salaman kama ja'alta an-nara bar dan wa salaman 'ala Ibrahim.

When to Read

When you taste something intensely bitter, like medicine or certain foods, and you feel irritation or anger starting to rise. This dua helps to cool your inner state as you pray for the external bitterness to become bearable.

How to Read

Recite this supplication immediately upon tasting the bitterness that provokes anger. Say it with sincerity, reflecting on Allah's ability to turn difficult circumstances into ease, just as He did for Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) when he was thrown into the fire. Imagine the intense heat of the fire becoming a cool respite for him, and ask Allah to do the same for your discomfort.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a beautiful way to manage anger before it escalates. By seeking Allah's help through this specific supplication, you acknowledge His power over all things, including the sensory experiences that can trigger negative emotions. It transforms a potentially frustrating moment into an opportunity for remembrance (dhikr) and a reminder of Allah's miracles, fostering patience and a calm disposition.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught us the supplication for heat and coolness, and for bitterness: 'O Allah, make it cool and safe, just as You made the fire cool and safe for Ibrahim.'
