Seeking Allah's Mercy on the Day of Judgment After Prayer

After Prayer
Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 2977

O Allah, I ask You to enable me to do good deeds, to abandon evil deeds, and to love the poor. And when You intend to test Your creation with a trial, take me to Yourself without subjecting me to it. And I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds which bring me closer to Your love.

When to Read

This beautiful dua is ideally recited immediately after completing your obligatory prayers (Fardh). It's a perfect way to transition from the focused devotion of prayer into a broader plea for divine guidance and mercy in all aspects of life, especially in facing the trials of this world and the Hereafter.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a humble heart, focusing on the meaning of each phrase. Raise your hands slightly, as you would during supplication (dua), and seek Allah's favor. Contemplate the requests: the ability to do good, abstain from evil, love the less fortunate, and remain steadfast in faith through trials. Finally, ask for His love, the love of those who love Him, and the love of actions that draw you closer to Him.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses a comprehensive request for well-being in this life and the next. It asks for the strength to perform virtuous deeds and refrain from wrongdoing, purifying one's actions. It cultivates compassion by asking for love of the poor and needy. Crucially, it seeks protection from trials and tribulations, asking to be taken back to Allah before falling into fitnah. The latter part of the dua focuses on attaining Allah's love and the love of righteous people, which are keys to closeness with the Creator and success on the Day of Judgment.

Source & Authentication

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Al-'As: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite some supplications which we did not recite. He recited: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka f'ila khayratik, wa tark munakaratik, wa hubb al-masakin, wa idha aradta fi khalqika fitnatan fa tawaffani ilayka ghayra maftun. Wa as'aluka hubbak, wa hubba man yuhibbuk, wa hubba 'amalin yuqarribuni ila hubbik.' He said: 'This is true, so learn it and teach it.' (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 2977. Graded Hasan by Al-Albani)
