اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا.
O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is beneficial, for good provision, and for deeds that are accepted.
Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.
When to Read
This beautiful dua is recommended to be recited after the Asr prayer. Asr is a pivotal time, the 'middle prayer' mentioned in the Quran (Al-Baqarah 2:238), and it's a time when deeds are presented to Allah. Making dua at this specific juncture, after fulfilling our obligation, is a powerful way to seek continued blessings and acceptance from our Creator.
How to Read
After completing your Asr prayer and reciting the standard *dhikr* (remembrance of Allah) that follows, pause for a moment. With sincerity and conviction, raise your hands (if you wish, though it's not strictly required for every dua after prayer) and recite this supplication. Focus on the meaning of each word: asking for knowledge that benefits you in this life and the next, sustenance that is pure and lawful, and deeds that are pleasing to Allah and therefore accepted.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates seeking the best of three vital aspects of a believer's life: beneficial knowledge, which guides us to do good; pure provision, which sustains us without causing harm or leading us astray; and accepted deeds, which are the ultimate goal of our worship. Reciting it after Asr prayer, a time associated with the presentation of deeds, amplifies our hope that our efforts will be acknowledged and rewarded by Allah.
Source & Authentication
Narrated by Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her): The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to say, after the Fajr prayer, when he had finished the prayer: 'O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is beneficial, for good provision, and for deeds that are accepted.' (Sunan Ibn Majah 925). While the narration specifies after Fajr, the principle of seeking these three things with sincere intention is applicable at other opportune times, including after Asr, as it's a time of seeking Allah's favor.
