Dua for Settling Debts After Prayer

After Prayer
Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 3563

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ.

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need to ask anyone else.

Allahumma akfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak.

When to Read

This dua is ideally recited after completing the obligatory prayers (fard salah). It's a beautiful way to turn to Allah for help in managing one's financial affairs, especially when facing debt, right after seeking His forgiveness and closeness through prayer.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction. Raise your hands slightly in supplication after saying the Salam of your prayer. Believe that Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) is the ultimate provider and will assist you in settling your debts through lawful means.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a profound request for financial independence and protection from unlawful means of acquiring wealth. By asking Allah to suffice us with His lawful provisions, we seek His blessing to earn honestly and avoid any haram income. The second part, 'enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need to ask anyone else,' is a plea for contentment and self-sufficiency, freeing us from dependence on people. This is particularly relevant when one is burdened by debt, as it shifts the focus from the debt itself to seeking Allah's ultimate help.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): A man who had a debt came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have incurred debt, and my wealth has become insufficient to pay it.' He said: 'Shall I not teach you some words that if you say them, Allah will pay your debt for you, even if it were as great as Mount Sabiir?' He said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah!' He said: 'Say: O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me with Your grace, so that I may not need to ask anyone else.' (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3563)
