Dua for Remaining Connected After Salat al-Jama'ah

After Prayer
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provisions, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This beautiful dua is recommended to be recited immediately after finishing the obligatory prayer, especially when praying in congregation. It's a powerful moment of transition, moving from the intense spiritual connection of prayer back into the flow of daily life. Saying this helps you carry the barakah (blessing) of your prayer with you into your day, asking Allah to bless your endeavors.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a focused heart. It's a supplication that encapsulates key aspects of a Muslim's life: seeking knowledge that benefits, earning provisions that are lawful and good, and performing deeds that are accepted by Allah. While this specific wording is often recited after the Tashahhud and before salam, this version is also established as a dua to make after the prayer is complete. Continue facing the Qiblah for a moment, or turn slightly to your right as is also sometimes practiced after congregational prayer.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is incredibly comprehensive, covering three vital areas for a believer: 'Ilman naafi'an' (beneficial knowledge) guides us to do what is right and avoid what is wrong. 'Rizqan tayyiban' (pure provisions) ensures that our sustenance is lawful and brings blessings to our lives and families. 'Amalan mutaqabbalan' (accepted deeds) is the ultimate goal, as our worship and good works are only valuable if Allah accepts them. Making this dua after prayer is a way to seek Allah’s continuous support and blessing in all aspects of your life.

Source & Authentication

Reported by Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'When a person finishes his prayer, and says while still sitting: Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provisions, and accepted deeds), it will be said to him: Your (request) has been fulfilled and it is now stored for you.'
