O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of Hellfire, and I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of the Dajjal, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of life and death.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adhabi jahannama wa a'udhu bika min 'adhab al-qabri wa a'udhu bika min fitnatid-dajjal wa a'udhu bika min fitnatil-mahya wal-mamat.
When to Read
This powerful dua is recited after completing the obligatory (fard) prayers. It's a moment when our hearts are often most tender and receptive after engaging with Allah through salah. Making this supplication right after the final tasleem (salutations) is a way to actively seek Allah's protection against internal and external trials that can affect our faith.
How to Read
Recite this dua immediately after finishing your fard prayer, after saying 'As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah' to both sides. It's recommended to say it with sincerity and focus, reflecting on the meaning of seeking refuge from these specific trials. Raising your hands is not a specific sunnah for this particular dua after prayer, but sincerity and heartfelt supplication are key.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking refuge in Allah from these four things encompasses protection from significant spiritual dangers. Hypocrisy (nifaq) is a severe illness of the heart, and this dua, by seeking refuge from the trials of life and death, implicitly includes protection against falling into such states. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to seek refuge from the punishment of the grave and the torment of Hellfire, which are consequences of disobedience and unrepented sins, including hidden hypocrisy. Protecting ourselves from the Dajjal's trial is also a vital aspect of maintaining our faith steadfastness in the face of widespread misguidance. This dua helps purify our intentions and strengthen our resolve to remain sincere believers.

(O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of Hell, and from the punishment of the grave, and from the trial of the Dajjal, and from the trial of life and death).
