Dua for Protection from Greed and Envy After Salah

After Prayer
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6369

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from being overcome by debt and by the force of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhl, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.

When to Read

This powerful supplication is best recited immediately after concluding your obligatory prayers (Fardh Salah). It's a perfect moment of reflection and closeness to Allah, when your heart is most receptive.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a focused heart after saying the Tasleem (the final salutation of the prayer). While the words themselves are protective, the true power lies in the conviction behind them. Turn your attention fully to Allah, acknowledging His power and your need for His protection.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly addresses several negative traits that can lead to unhappiness and spiritual decline. By seeking refuge from 'stinginess' (bukhl), we are asking Allah to protect us from the desire to hoard wealth and the miserliness that often accompanies greed. Similarly, seeking refuge from 'distress and sorrow' can help alleviate the anxiety that arises from coveting what others possess. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this comprehensive supplication as a shield against these inner battles.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to say: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhl, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from being overcome by debt and by the force of men.)
