After Prayer
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2708

أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ

I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.

A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq

When to Read

This powerful dua is recommended to be recited three times after Fajr (dawn) and Maghrib (sunset) prayers. These are the times when we transition between the safety of daylight and the vulnerability of night, and vice versa. Seeking Allah's protection at these specific junctures is a Sunnah practice that helps us safeguard ourselves throughout the coming day or night.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely after you finish your obligatory prayers, turning your attention fully to Allah. It is recommended to face the Qiblah (direction of prayer) and raise your hands, though raising hands is not a strict condition for this particular dua. The key is humility and a true reliance on Allah for protection.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua regularly after Fajr and Maghrib offers profound protection. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that whoever says this three times in the morning will be protected until the evening, and whoever says it three times in the evening will be protected until the morning. This protection encompasses all forms of evil, whether seen or unseen, from His creation. It's a beautiful manifestation of our dependence on Allah and His infinite mercy.

Source & Authentication

‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “He who says: 'Bismillah, the words of Allah, with which nothing on earth or in the heavens can harm, are in the Name of Allah, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing,' three times every morning, will not be afflicted by any sudden calamity until the evening, and he who says it three times in the evening will not be afflicted by any sudden calamity until the morning.” (In the version narrated by Muslim, the wording is: 'A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq. 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.')
