‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “He who says: 'Bismillah, the words of Allah, with which nothing on earth or in the heavens can harm, are in the Name of Allah, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing,' three times every morning, will not be afflicted by any sudden calamity until the evening, and he who says it three times in the evening will not be afflicted by any sudden calamity until the morning.” (In the version narrated by Muslim, the wording is: 'A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq. 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.')
