Dua for Patience and Strength After Prayer

After Prayer
Hasan HadithSunan An-Nasa'i 1307

O Allah, I ask You for patience during what I dislike, and a life after death, and pleasure in looking at Your Face, and a longing to meet You, without any harm or misguidance. And I ask You to help me remember You, thank You, and worship You in the best manner.

When to Read

This dua is particularly potent when recited immediately after completing your obligatory (fard) or supererogatory (nafl) prayers. It's a perfect moment to connect with Allah after seeking His presence through salah, especially when you anticipate or are currently facing difficulties and wish for the strength to endure them with grace.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a focused heart after finishing your prayer, ideally after the tasleem (saying 'As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah'). You can raise your hands slightly in supplication, as was the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ after prayer in some instances, or place them on your lap if that is more comfortable. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, truly asking Allah for His assistance in facing trials and deepening your remembrance and worship.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive supplication asks Allah for several profound gifts. Firstly, it seeks 'sabr' (patience) during challenging times, which is a cornerstone of a believer's strength. It also asks for a blissful afterlife ('ayshan ba'dal mawt'), the ultimate joy of seeing Allah's Face, and a yearning for His meeting – the highest aspiration for a Muslim. Furthermore, it requests assistance in the very essence of our faith: remembering Allah, being grateful to Him, and perfecting our worship. This makes it a powerful dua for spiritual growth and resilience.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Al-'As: He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me words to say when I finish my prayer. I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, teach me words to say when I finish my prayer.' He said: 'Say: O Allah, I ask You for patience during what I dislike, and a life after death, and pleasure in looking at Your Face, and a longing to meet You, without any harm or misguidance. And I ask You to help me remember You, thank You, and worship You in the best manner.' Abdullah bin 'Amr said: 'So I said them when I finished my prayer, and after that I did not mind if I was given hardship or ease.'
