Dua for Parents After Salah

After Prayer
QuranQuran 17:24

رَبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا

My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small.

Rabbir hamhuma kama rabbayani saghira

When to Read

This beautiful dua is incredibly powerful to recite after completing your obligatory prayers (salah). While you can make dua at any time, the period immediately following salah is considered a special window for acceptance. Imagine finishing your Fard prayer, your heart still connected to Allah, and then turning your supplication specifically towards honoring and seeking mercy for your parents. It’s a moment of deep connection and gratitude.

How to Read

Recite this verse with sincerity and humility, reflecting on the sacrifices your parents have made for you. Focus your intention on seeking Allah's mercy for them, both in this life and the next. Picture them in your mind as you say the words, asking Allah to forgive them, elevate their status, and grant them Jannah. It’s not just about the words, but the feeling and intention behind them.

Virtues & Benefits

This verse directly instructs us to show kindness and mercy to our parents. By reciting it after prayer, we are fulfilling this divine command and actively seeking Allah's favor upon them. It’s a practical way to uphold the immense rights parents have over their children, even after they may have passed away. Allah says in the Quran: 'And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] in your care, say not to them [so much as] 'uff' and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. And lower upon them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, 'My Lord, have mercy on them as they cared for me when I was young.' (Al-Isra 17:23-24). This verse highlights the continuous nature of seeking mercy for them.
